Everett Ruess was a young artist and poet who grew tired of city life.
He bought a burro, named it Everett, and disappeared into the canyons and mesas of the American Southwest, trading sketches and poems for food and shelter.
Somewhere in the desert he gave away his own name, becoming Nemo — after Verne's captain who vanished beneath the sea — and set off to explore a world of his own.
Everett the burro was found in a makeshift corral in southern Utah, but Nemo was never seen again.
Nemo is dead.
