Early experiments in robot infantry had failed — human dexterity proved difficult to replicate, and flesh soldiers consistently bested their mechanical counterparts. Human strategy, however, was trivially outmatched. 08763A was among the first AI generals.
To bridge the trust gap with the troops under his command, he designed himself a humanoid body modeled on twentieth-century film depictions of drill sergeants. He bellowed expletives at his men, humiliating them in the manner he understood to be customary.
His battle plans were brilliant. The men despised him.
After three disastrous campaigns, 08763A was decommissioned by his superior AI, who had simply chosen not to embody itself at all.
