Collect Rocks

When you have more interactions with rocks, you'll find certain rocks more beautiful or more interesting than others and you'll want to take them home with you. Collecting rocks is a great hobby and it's always nice to have interesting rocks around that you can do other stuff with.

If you don't have a collection of rocks yet, now is a great time to start. When you encounter a rock with special qualities that happen to capture your attention, consider taking this rock to your home. One rock does not qualify as a collection. Two or three rocks is not quite a collection either, but eventually as you find more and more rocks, you'll have a collection.

You don't need any special materials for your collection, a unused shoe box will work. You can also place rocks in different places around your home, such as in windows, on tables, or around your desk. It is convenient to have rocks nearby to satisfy your attention, or even to give your hands something to do while you think or talk to people on a video call.

You can, however, expand your collection and make it even more interesting. A wood box or display with glass windows, and labels can make your rock collection more accessible to others.

Learning and documenting the specific details of rocks in your collection can add to the collection, and perhaps increase its overall value. While most people collect for fun, you might find yourself with a collection of rocks with enormous monetary value. Precious and rare stones in your collection both add to the interest and value of your collection.

When your collection reaches a point where it no longer fits in a room or in your home, consider donating your collection to a museum, or building your own musuem — so that others can enjoy your collection as well. Learning exhibits that teach the geological details of each rock will make your museum of rocks even more fascinating. Include a room in your museum where stones can be viewed with black light, which will let you see hidden colors.

Eventually your collection will have many rare and precious rocks, people will come from all over to view your collection. As you meet people who are visiting your museum, you might include a shop where visitors can buy samples of unique rocks to add to their own collections.
